Things To Do

Located on the shores of the Pamlico River, Washington is a waterway to the Atlantic Ocean and the I.C.W. and offers all the amenities of a coastal community.  Sailing is a popular pastime here.  You’ll find several excellent marinas catering to the boater’s needs.  The City of Washington docks along Stewart Parkway's river walk provide water, power, and a pump out station and restroom facilities.  For reservations call the Washington Recreation Department at (252) 975-9367, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday or visit them on the web at http://www.washington-nc.com/recreation_boats.aspx.

Washington, North Carolina is about two hours east of Raleigh at the junction of Highways 264 and 17.  East Carolina University and the city of Greenville are just a 20-minute drive away.  Bath, North Carolina’s first town is likewise a 20-minute drive and provides a perfect day trip from Washington.  The Swan Quarter ferry to Ocracoke Island is about a 1 1/2-hour drive from The Moss House.  Historic New Bern is a short 45-minute drive and Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, and Beaufort are all 1 1/2- to 2-hour drives.  Cape Hatteras is also accessible from the Ocracoke ferry or four hours driving time to the east.
